PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: I’m totally confused on show times lately-I’m on vacation in NC (Eastern time) and all of my calendars are wrong. 😦
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: who is wicked decent again?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Peggy you had us fooled.
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Wicjked Decent is Jeff Bailey in Maine
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: thanks
sheila a -> -EdTechTalk: Morning!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: Peggy just watch for the tweets
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Morning Sheila!
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: No I’m in NC today-not a trooper
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: shhh – don’t tell ’em
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Test
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: test?
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: You all should put your calendar on the Seedlings Ning community-I went there to try to figure out what time the show was.
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: i fail
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Morning everyone
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: morning
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @Peggy.. We will for future thanks for suggestion
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: The audio sounds good
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: coffee refill time
bobsprankle -> -EdTechTalk: hi all
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: That’s funny!-multitasking is like riding a bicycle 🙂
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Durff We won’t start without you!
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: THanks Mike!
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Durff where are you?
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Lisa!
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa Parisi-what time does your show start today?
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: HI Alice.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Peggy the show starts in two hours.
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: 11:30 EDT for Conversations
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Yay for Peggy!
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Yes, I’m in for webcast academy this time. 🙂
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Cheryl
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I don’t think I have any info for Sandbox A.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Durff, do you?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: okay, thanks lisa
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: no already asked
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Hope my family cooperates so I can join you at 11:30–they want to go to the lake. Imagine that??? 🙂
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: A family who wants to spend time together? How dare they!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: eney miney moo
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: July 27
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: perfect alice
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: Parisi EET A not Sandbox
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: sorry i went for coffee
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: fresh toms?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Durff, our intros are done, ready to go.
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: oh boy!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: which conference was worth more?
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: That was a big question 🙂 How was BLC08 🙂
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: The international flavor really added value to the conversations
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Question: If you come in a team, doesn’t it close you off from meeting others?
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: yeah, how WAS the cruise?
bobsprankle -> -EdTechTalk: fun!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: photos?
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa Parisi-that was the question I had too. Teams tend to stay together and only talk with each other.
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @durff if you go to the BLC08 Ning there are tons of photos there!
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Meg! Welcome!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: ok alice
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: hi meg
sheila a -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa – but is it quality time that the team doesn’t get and creates a bigger impact back home?
Meg Griffin -> -EdTechTalk: Hi all, Lisa just posted to Plurk and I thought I would stop by and see what is going on
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: lotsa fun meg
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: hi there!
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: The cruise was a very HOT and beautiful!
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: @sheilaa I think finding quality time in a group that already exists is easier than finding others to connect with.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: But I wasn’t there so I don’t know.
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: Good morning all
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Cheryl L.
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Yes, Lisa, but we still want to expand and be inclusive to newcomers
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Time to reflect during the conference would take care of Blogger’s Cafe at BLC
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: The conversation we had with Darren at the end was valuable to bring some closure but it would have been better if we didn’t have to give up something to do it.
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: If teams are encouraged at BLC, is there time built into the schedule for them to work together as a team?
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: I think there going to try that next year Peggy.
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: but clarence had to leave in 2 minutes, right?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: yes durff, Clarence had to leave earlier.
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: and they ustreamed it!
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Yes that kept the conversation moving and not spinning wheels
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: cheryl that was a joke
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Do you have the link for that ustream reflection on BLC?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: sorry, durff, too many multi tasks
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Colleen.
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: Better late than never, huh?
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Lisa!
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: I enjoyed it!!
bobsprankle -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Colleen
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: Hi Bob
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: hello colleen, glad you made it

AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: You guys are awesome!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: FF3 have the addons YET?
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: http://wordle.net
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: thanks cherylL
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: oh i give up
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: Your welcome
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: 🙂
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: It represented a shift in technology conversations that needs to be taken to the masses.
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: that is right!
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Great job Bob!
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: That ws fabulous, Bob!
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I got some incredible ideas from you.
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Can you share your wordle example from BLC?
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: @PeggyG http://blcconference.ning.com/group/edubloggerconblc
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: no rumming!
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: http://wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/69489/EBCE08

cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: peggy it is on the edubloggerconeast wiki, will get that link
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Got it-thanks
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.edubloggercon.com/BLC2008
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: thanks Michael, LINK MAN!
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: This ties in nicely with Lisa’s and Maria’s Conversations later this morning. Different angle, though.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: That’s how things are in my school too.
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: There needs to be a realization that teaching needs to change from the industrial age pedagogy.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Biggest complaint I hear is 1. no time and 2. can’t get the laptops.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: For #1 – I realize those teachers don’t see tech as integrated yet.
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa I am with #2 since they took computers out of my classroom
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: For #2 – I keep talking to admin about 1 to 1
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: Tech needs to be seen as another tool to use not something extra added in
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Great point Bob-maybe you could give discounts to teams that must include both parents and students 🙂
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Cheryl why did they remove computers?
bobsprankle -> -EdTechTalk: i like the discount idea
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I hear about lots of schools that have Tuesday Tech PTA mornings
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: So they could purchase 32 more mobile laptops but can never get them
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Maybe we need to take it to the statewide PTA conferences instead of them coming to us.
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Same for administrators
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Great article by Cheri Toledo, Extreme Makeover: Updated Clss Activities for 21st Century.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I have the article in front of me.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Cheri gave me a great idea for my 21st Century Classroom class
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Right Michael, absolutely. Lisa isn’t a great article. Easy to read.
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: It was a good article
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: She said to have the participants work in a google doc to take notes fduring the class.
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: easy enough for me to pass on to colleagues who are not techy
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: We took turns taking notes.
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: Great idea Lisa!, We have done something like each person takes a turn taking notes in a wiki.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: We don’t do Tues tech in our schools but I heard about it from tech teachers who run it
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: I am on PTA brd at my school maybe this is something I can suggest to them
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Cheri also suggested I give a sheet to my participants where they write down units they do, and a tool they hear about that would work well in that tool.
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Wonder if you could have some kind of “smackdown” or “lightning sessions” with the teams sharing a 3-min. preso of how they are using social networks or web 2.0 for colloborating in their districts (the teams would have all groups represented-teachers, admin, parents, students)
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I was considering doing Tech Tues in my school but I am just a teacher.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I don’t think I should be doing it.
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa JUST?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: all the more powerful!!! Lisa P
colleenk -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa If not you, then who?
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I know..feeling bitter. Sorry.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: I have to teach…don’t have the time to run
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @Lisa Maybe your kids need to help
sheila a -> -EdTechTalk: @LisaP – I did that for several years and found the ones I didn’t expect come. YOu never know!
chriss -> -EdTechTalk: Patrick Ledesma had a solid preso on the role of tech specialists as leaders on k12online 07. Looked at the big picture.
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: My kids do…we have their parents come in and the kids give them a tour of our site with all its work.
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: Did you see that article that slnbeach shared today about Mississippi school board policy that bans teachers from communicating with students on social networks? 😦
sheila a -> -EdTechTalk: @LisaParisi – how often do you have the parents come in?
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @PeggyG Link?
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: morning loonyhiker
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080721/NEWS/807210328/1001/news

loonyhiker -> -EdTechTalk: hey there alice!!
loonyhiker -> -EdTechTalk: thanks to lisa for letting me know about this on plurk!
mrichme -> -EdTechTalk: Remember Alice that people fear change
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: That’s what I struggle with-getting colleagues on brd w/tech use
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: sustaining the network after the events is the big challenge 🙂
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: @mrichme I know…. Venting 🙂
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: they haven’t seen the value of the network I’m a part of
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.cast.org/research/udl/index.html
chriss -> -EdTechTalk: http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=186 “The Technology Specialist as Teacher Leader”
loonyhiker -> -EdTechTalk: i never understood why we couldn’t teach students according to their needs. i think udl is great
loonyhiker -> -EdTechTalk: i did! it was awful
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: @sheilaa Officially, they come in once with the kids, once without. Unofficially…any time they want. Plus, lots of homework is to talk with parents.
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: I agree loonyhiker! But now to get the message out to folks.
AliceBarr -> -EdTechTalk: Wlcome Nancyvonw
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: The article seems to mention My Space and Facebook but the policy seems to use the language “social networks”–very limiting!!
sheila a -> -EdTechTalk: @LisaP – Thanks!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: our principal used a Ning in his English class
Lisa Parisi -> -EdTechTalk: Good for him!
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: I’m thinking it is okay for us
cheryloakes- SEEDLINGS -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.crickweb.co.uk/
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: Ning blocked but I am elementary
nhill -> -EdTechTalk: My principal is lucky to check his e-mail
PeggyG -> -EdTechTalk: The funny (strange) thing was they said it wasn’t because of any particular problem but just trying to prevent future problems????
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: i will use ning withy ms and hs if i want to – watch me
CLykowski -> -EdTechTalk: My principal just took new position within district but was my biggest fan for tech use
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: i do it and tell later
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: cheryl – type a word then paste in the window
mrsdurff -> -EdTechTalk: hi shawn
